Each season Girls on the Run of Central Ohio identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-15 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Head Coach Overview

Each season Girls on the Run of Central Ohio identifies and selects a dynamic group of coaches to lead each of our teams of 8-15 girls. Coaches are parents, teachers, school administrators, college students and other community members who are committed to developing and celebrating our girls.

Head Coach - Greatest time commitment – leads the program twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes for the 10 week season. Must run in the end-of-season 5k. 2 Head Coaches are required per site.
The Head Coach is a volunteer position that works with a team of coaches to facilitate the Girls on the Run curriculum to program participants. This position entails approximately four hours per week for a 10-week commitment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Head coach must be a woman
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • CPR and First Aid certified
  • Must consent to and complete a background check
  • Attend Girls on the Run coach training
  • Attend all (two) practices per week for a weekly time commitment of approximately 4 hours
  • Must be able to volunteer after school between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Have fun!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Prepare, organize and supervise weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Facilitate communication with parents/guardians of program participants
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K
  • Plan and coordinate your team’s end of season party

Assistant Coach Overview

Moderate time commitment, assists the head coach(es), must be present at least once a week and stay the length of program, and run in end-of-season 5k. There can be 1-2 Asst. Coaches per site, but not required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must consent to and complete a background check
  • Attend Girls on the Run coach training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week
  • Must be able to volunteer after school between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Have fun!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with all aspects of the facilitation of weekly lessons
  • Collaborate with other coaches for successful lesson delivery
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K

Junior Coach Overview

13-18 year olds who are willing to support adult volunteers and provide their perspective to processing with the groups, must be present at least once a week and stay the length of program, and run in end-of-season 5k. The number of Jr. Coaches may vary per site.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Junior Coach must be 16-18 years old
  • Must be a high school student
  • Attend Girls on the Run coach training
  • Able to attend practices once or twice per week
  • Must be able to volunteer after school between the hours of 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM
  • Have fun!

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a role model for program participants
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down of games and lessons
  • Provide one-on-one attention to program participants
  • Participate in games and workouts with the girls
  • Lead an activity with assistance and supervision of the Head Coach if desired
  • Participate in the Girls on the Run 5K

When and where is coach training?

There are 2 remaining coach training sessions (listed below). Please select the session you’ll be attending within your coach application form.

Thursday, August 10th, 5-9PM

OR

Saturday, August 12th, 10AM-2PM

 

Can I choose the site where I coach?

Coaches may indicate a preference for the site at which they would like to coach. If coaches do not have a preference, we will assign them to a location in need of volunteers.
